Inauguration of the Newly Renovated School Library

On 31st July, 2024, Purushottam High School proudly inaugurated its newly renovated library, a significant milestone made possible by the generous contributions of the school’s alumnus with his sisters, in fond memory of his mother Shambhavi Jayaram Shetty. The event marked the culmination of months of planning and efforts by the former student dedicated to enhancing his alma mater.
The highlight of the event was the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which symbolized the official opening of the refurbished space. Alumni representative CA.Sandeep Shetty Class of 1990 along with our Director Mrs.Prema Kotian , Director Academics Dr.Lata Sagar and Management Members were honored to cut the ribbon together, representing the continuity between past achievements and future aspirations.
The newly renovated library features modern amenities, including comfortable reading areas, and an expanded collection of books and digital resources. The redesign aims to provide a versatile and inviting environment that fosters learning and creativity.
Alumni shared his reflections on the library’s impact during the ceremony. CA. Mr.Sandeep Shetty Class of 1990, spoke about the library’s influence on his educational journey, underscoring the importance of such spaces in nurturing students’ interests and skills.
The successful renovation of the library stands as a testament to the enduring connection between Purushottam High School’s past and present, showcasing the powerful impact of alumni involvement in advancing educational resources.
Physiotherapy Session for Teachers
Date: 6th July, 2024
Venue: Purushottam High School
Objective : The physiotherapy session aimed to address musculoskeletal issues commonly faced by teachers, promote ergonomic awareness, and provide practical exercises to improve physical well-being.
The session started with :
– Emphasizing the importance of proactive health management for educators.
– Discussed ergonomic principles tailored to teaching environments.
– Provided guidance on optimal desk setups, chair positioning, and computer ergonomics.
– Demonstrated a series of stretching exercises to alleviate tension and improve flexibility.
– Emphasized exercises targeting neck, shoulder, and lower back areas.
– Emphasized exercises suitable for daily practice without specialized equipment.
– Guided participants through a brief relaxation session to alleviate muscle tension.
– Addressed questions from teachers regarding specific concerns or exercises.
– Provided personalized advice on posture correction and pain management strategies.
The session successfully equipped teachers with practical strategies to improve their physical well-being and manage musculoskeletal discomfort effectively. By empowering educators with these tools, the aim is to foster a healthier and more productive school environment.
Lastly our HM. Mrs Vandana Kamble (Secondary) and Mrs.Anita Mathew (Primary) along with other dignitaries felicitated the speaker with a small token of love.
Kids for Tigers
Date: 19th July, 2024
Venue: National Centre for Performing Arts, Nariman Point
On July 19, 2024, Sanctuary Nature Foundation organized a Tiger Feast event called “Kids for Tigers” at the National Centre for Performing Arts, Nariman Point. This initiative introduces children to nature in a gentle, reassuring, and encouraging manner, teaching them that nature is a source of life rather than just a resource.
“Kids for Tigers” is an educational outreach program aimed at informing children about how to protect our national animal, the tiger. The event raises awareness about endangered species and their crucial role in maintaining ecological balance. Recognizing that children are our future, the program emphasizes their potential to bring significant environmental changes.
Various competitions were held at the event, including Nature Walk, Art Installation, Leaf Art, Face Painting, and Fancy Dress Competition, with participation from different schools. From our nature club, we took 12 children along with two teachers. Our students participated enthusiastically in the various competitions.
We were proud to receive the 3rd prize in the Fancy Dress Competition, where our students enacted an eagle. We chose this role to highlight the eagle’s importance in keeping nature’s environment clean by consuming dead animal matter. The students explored and enjoyed each activity to the fullest.
Anti-Drug Campaign

In an effort to combat drug abuse and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle, Purushottam High School recently conducted a comprehensive anti-drug campaign. This initiative involved various activities designed to educate and engage students on the harmful effects of drugs. The key components of the campaign included an anti-drug pledge, a poster competition, and a rally.
1. Anti drug pledge
The campaign kicked off with an anti-drug pledge, where students committed to leading a drug-free life. This event was crucial in educating students about the adverse effects of drug abuse and inspiring them to make a personal commitment to avoid drugs. The pledge served as a powerful reminder of the importance of making healthy life choices.
2. Poster Competition on Anti-Drug Campaign
To further reinforce the message, a poster competition was held. This competition allowed students to express their creativity while raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. Through their artistic expressions, students highlighted the harmful effects of drugs and promoted a drug-free lifestyle. The posters were displayed around the school, serving as constant visual reminders of the campaign’s message.
3. Rally on Anti-Drug Campaign
The campaign culminated in a rally aimed at spreading the anti-drug message beyond the school premises. Students, along with teachers and staff, marched in solidarity to raise awareness about drug abuse and encourage healthy living. The rally was an impactful way to engage the wider community and reinforce the campaign’s objectives.
The successful execution of the anti-drug campaign was made possible under the guidance of Director Mrs. Prema Kotian, Principal Mrs. Vandana Kamble, Assistant Principal Mrs. Bharati Gadge, and Supervisor Mr. Ashok Korade. Their leadership and dedication were instrumental in organizing and overseeing the campaign. Additionally, valuable support was provided by the teachers Mrs. Sangeeta Yadav, Mrs. Vijaya, Mrs. Kalpana Pandey, Mrs. Hemangi Divekar, and Mr. Jagdish Gharat.
Overall, the anti-drug campaign at Purushottam High School was a significant step towards promoting a drug-free environment and educating students on the importance of making healthy lifestyle choices. Disaster Management Session Summary

Guest Speaker: Mr. Vikas Shirodkar
The session on disaster management, with a focus on fire extinguisher training, was conducted at PHS on 6th July 2024. The guest speaker, Mr. Vikas Shirodkar, a renowned Fire and Safety Consultant, was introduced and welcomed by the teachers.
Mr. Shirodkar initiated the session with interactive questions about the nature and causes of fire. He covered several key points, including:
– *Ideal Fire Protection:* Best practices and measures for preventing fires.
– *Classification of Fires Based on Fuels:* Understanding different types of fires depending on the fuel source.
– *Classes of Fire:* Detailed explanation of various classes of fire.
– *Types of Extinguishers and Importance of Maintenance:* Overview of different fire extinguishers and the need for regular maintenance.
– *Causes, Sources, and Prevention of Fire:* Common causes and sources of fire, along with prevention strategies.
Following the theoretical part, Mr. Shirodkar conducted a hands-on training session where teachers and support staff practiced using fire extinguishers. This practical segment was crucial in preparing the participants to handle potential fire emergencies effectively.
The session proved to be highly informative and practical, equipping the school staff with essential skills and knowledge to ensure safety during fire emergencies. The objective of enhancing fire safety awareness and preparedness within the school community was successfully achieved.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. Edna Borade. Mr. Shirodkar was awarded a token of appreciation by the dignitaries for his valuable inputs on the topic.
Classroom Management Session for Teachers

The Directors Ms Prema Kotian and Dr Lata Sagar organised a comprehensive session on classroom management for our dedicated teaching staff .The session aimed to equip teachers with effective strategies and tools to enhance classroom discipline, engagement, and learning outcomes.
The primary objectives of the session were to:
1. Introduce innovative classroom management techniques.
2. Address common classroom challenges and provide practical solutions.
3. Foster a collaborative environment for teachers to share their experiences and strategies.
The session commenced with a warm welcome by Mrs Anupama Lobo, who emphasized the importance of effective classroom management in creating a conducive learning environment.
Mrs Taiba, an expert in educational psychology and classroom management, delivered an insightful presentation. Topics covered included:
Strategies for maintaining discipline.
Techniques for engaging students.
Methods for handling disruptive behavior.
Importance of creating a positive classroom culture.
Teachers enthusiastically dressed as twins with their partners as per the theme and participated in various interactive activities designed to address specific classroom management issues.
An open forum allowed teachers to ask questions and share their experiences.
Constructive feedback was provided by the school management team and the guest speaker.
– Teachers gained valuable insights and practical tools to improve their classroom management skills.
– The session fostered a sense of community and collaboration among the teaching staff.

Session on (CSA) Child Sexual Abuse

Guest Speaker: Mrs. Taiba
Child sexual abuse is a widespread and devastating issue, impacting millions globally. Its effects are profound, encompassing physical, emotional, and psychological harm. Despite underreporting, its prevalence demands urgent attention. Prevention strategies, including education and support services, are crucial in combating this pervasive problem. By fostering awareness and providing resources, we can work towards creating safer environments for children worldwide.
The speaker for the day was welcomed and introduced to the teachers. Mrs Taiba Mahida has studied clinical psychology at Maniben Nanavati women’s college and currently works at BJ. Wadia hospital for children. The session began with a prayer song by our teacher.
The session continued with a group activity where teachers were asked to draw a picture of a girl and a boy and name their different body parts.
The speaker explained about the different types of sexual abuse, the signs to identify them and the ways it can be prevented.
Mrs Taiba explained the POCSO act which is an acronym for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences.
The session concluded by a vote of thanks by our Director Ms Prema Kotian expressing her gratitude to Mrs. Taiba for enlightening us as teachers how we must prioritize the protection of our children by fostering a culture of vigilance, support, and accountability.
International Day of Yoga

Guest Speaker: Ms Bhairavi, Ms Parekh, Ms Ashika Katwala, Neepa Bhatiya.
This year 21st June marked the 10th International Day of Yoga with the theme “Yoga for Self and Society.”
Yoga, a transformative practice, represents the harmony of mind and body, the balance between thought and action, and the unity of restraint and fulfillment. It integrates the body, mind, spirit, and soul, offering a holistic approach to health and well-being that brings peace to our hectic lives. Its power to transform is what we celebrate on this special day.
The guests for the day were welcomed and introduced to the students. Ms Bhairavi Parekh, Ms Ashika Katwala, and Ms Neepa Bhatiya, who have immense expertise in yoga, graced the occasion.
The session began with a prayer song by our teacher Mr Nikam
Ms. Bhairavi Parekh started with the basics, emphasizing the correct posture for sitting and standing. She explained the proper techniques of breathing and its benefits. She also introduced the students to super brain yoga, which helps increase memory power—a valuable tool for students.
The session continued with the practice of various stretching exercises and asanas, including:
– Suryanamaskar
– Tadasana (mountain pose)
– Vrikshasana (tree pose)
– Manjarasana (cat pose)
– Sukhasana
The students played an important role as active participants throughout the session.
The session concluded with a token of appreciation awarded to the three yoga experts by our supervisor, Mr. Ashok Korade.
Our Director Mrs. Prema Kotian shared valuable insights on the occasion and proposed the vote of thanks.
Braille Day (by Muskan Foundation)
Date: 4th January 2024
Venue: Purushottam High School
Muskan Foundation collaborates with the schools to help the students to develop empathy towards the visually challenged.
Their main goal is to create awareness and concern among students for the blind, and develop a right attitude towards them and help them.
The session was conducted under the able guidance of our Director Mrs.Prema Kotian, Principal Mrs . Prasanna Mohandas, Asst. Principal Mrs. Vandana Kamble and Supervisor Mr. Ashok Korade.
The session began with a brief introduction of Braille Day by Ms. Priya, Ms. Sonam and Ms. Pranali followed by an interactive session.
The students enthusiastically participated in all the activities which were thoroughly enriching experience for them, as the volunteers used different instrument like Braille writing system for blind which are used by blind people.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Rajiv Lohat.
International Disability Day

The CWSN (LD) students and the entire Purushottam team celebrated the World Disability Day to encourage the CWSN students to participate in various creative activities.The programme began with a motivational speech by MRS Jayshree Kadam . The techer incharge of the CWSN students Mrs. Pradnya Gamare conducted various competitions such as QUIZ, POSTER MAKING,STORY TELLING, SINGING and encouraged the students to focus on their special abilities.
The students were rewarded for their talents and the parents were informed to develop the same.
The Director of the school Mrs Prema Kotian, the Principal Mrs. Prasanna Mohandas and the Asst.headmistress Mrs. Vandana Kamble congratulated the students and wished them many more laurels and success in their future endeavors.

Activity 1- Introduction & Icebreaking
Objective: To create a comfortable & relaxed atmosphere among students.
Action: The mentors introduced themselves and after that, the students were asked to introduce themselves and share their hobbies which created a relaxed and welcoming environment.
Outcome: This activity helped the students to express themselves and get to know each other better. It created a relaxed and open environment for the students to connect and build relationships.
Time: 30 min
Activity 2 – Equation Expedition
Objective: To help the students perform mathematical equations quickly.
Action: The students were given equations of addition and subtraction which contained blanks (such as: _+ 5= 4+ 3). The mentors then showed the students how to solve the equations easily. The students could not make a new equation until the mentor checked the current equation.
Outcome: The students tried to perform maths in less time by themselves at the end of the activity and were able to answer the question competitively.
Time: 30 min
Activity 3 – Word Wizards
Objective: To strengthen new vocabulary by having students create sentences using introduced words, promoting understanding & usage.
Action: The mentors introduced new words with their meanings & provided examples to the students. They ensured that the students had a clear understanding of the words. The mentors instructed each student to create sentences using the assigned words. Set a time limit of 5 minutes. Have students from the team present sentences to the class. They concluded the activity with the correct usage of the words and encouraged students to reflect on how they can incorporate these words into their everyday language.
Outcome: Through this activity, the students was able to use and understand the introduced words more effectively. The activity encouraged creative thinking as students constructed sentences that not only used the assigned words but also conveyed meaningful and imaginative ideas.
Time: 30 min
Activity 4 – Musical chair
Objective: To create a lively and engaging atmosphere.
Action: The mentors arranged the chairs in two lines, two less than the number of students. When the music played, the students walked around the chairs. They had to find a chair to sit on as soon as the music stopped. Two chairs were removed after every round and the game continued until only one student remained.
Outcome: This activity encouraged the students to think fast and make quick decisions. They learned to adapt to changing circumstances and handle competition. It provided a break from regular activities and injected some fun and excitement into the day.

Decision Making

The volunteers from Deloitte conducted an excellent session on Decision Making for the students of Std 8th to 10th of our school. ‘Decision Making ‘ is a cognitive process of selecting a course of action to form various other options.
It is very important to make the right choice by keeping alternative options rather than making a poor choice.
Wrong choices can reflect heavily on our lives while good choices will enhance our future.
This makes Decision Making an important factor in one’s life.
It was a wonderful session with an excellent use of PPT presentation by the team Deloitte.
They explained that one should follow six steps while making decisions.
1. To identify the decision to be made.
2. To do a self-assessment.
3. To identify the options
4. To gather information and data.
5. To evaluate the options
6. To select one of the options.
The students enjoyed the session as they conducted various activities involving them and made them aware of how important it is to make the right decision at the right time.
Refreshments were provided to the students at the end of the session.
The school management was grateful for the initiative taken by the Deloitte team. They were felicitated with ‘Thank You ‘greeting cards prepared by the students and a letter of appreciation for their noble initiative.
Refresher Course for Scout/Guide Masters by the District Association

Venue: St Teresa’s Convent High School, Santacruz West
An activity based refresher course for Scouts/Guides Masters was organised by the District Association at St Teresa’s Convent High School- Santacruz West.
Mrs Jayashree Chury,Mrs Sona Singh and Mr Jagdish Gharat represented our school.The refresher course provided information on online registration and creation of UID.
Mrs Shobha,Mrs Radha,Mrs Sarita,Mr Zahid,Mr Bolar were the trainers for the day .
They refreshed the techniques of tying various types of knots, first aid as well as lashing through written and practical work.
The session conducted with the felicitation of the participants with participation certificate.

Mr. Harish Sharma an eminent motivational speaker was the resource person of this enriching session. He was welcomed with a bouquet by the Director of our school Mrs. Prema Kotian . Our Principal Mrs. Prasanna Mohandas introduced the speaker.
The session began with a warming up game in which the the teachers were divided into three groups.
With the help of an excellent PPT presentation he explained the various teaching techniques , qualities of a teacher, basic principles of teaching, importance of a good teacher, perfect classroom, effective teaching tips and problems faced by a teacher.
He further emphasized on the need to motivate the students using techniques like study buddy system, group discussion,etc . So that the students will achieve their desired goals.
He made the session interesting by narrating his own life experiences.
Our director Mrs. Prema Kotian proposed the vote of thanks and presented the guest speaker with a Thank You card and a letter of gratitude for sparing his valuable time and enriching the teachers with an informative and a wonderful session.

Critical Thinking

The volunteers from Deloitte conducted a session on Critical Thinking as an initiative for the “VolunCheers Week ” . The students of grades 6th to 8th of our school participated in session.
A wonderful session was conducted by the team Deloitte with an excellent use of PPT presentation.
It was indeed a very informative and interactive session by the team.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the session as various activities were conducted by the volunteers to make them understand the importance of critical thinking.
Refreshments were provided to the students at the end of the session.
The school management expressed their gratitude for the initiative taken by the Deloitte team and they were felicitated with ” Thank You” cards made by the students and a letter of appreciation for the noble initiative.
